There are more than a dozen major cities where water supply is challenged.  For instance in Dallas, Texas and Tampa, Florida measures have been taken to reduce irrigation in both residential and commercial usage.  They are permitted to water turf and landscape only once a week.  In 2006, some North Dallas lakes were 15 feet low and rainfall in the past few years is barely enough to maintain current lake levels each year.  In many areas like Pasco County Florida, existing water supplies are, or will be, inadequate to meet the demands for the area.  In addition, the uncertainty of an adequate water supply threatens sustained growth in the western states. Because water supplies are finite, conservation is the only solution to this portending crisis.

Water consumed by landscape irrigation represents almost 70% of every water bill. Research has shown that households with timer-controlled sprinkler systems use 47% more water than households with the Acclima in ground soil moisture controller.  Timer-controlled irrigation systems are unsatisfactory because they may waste water by watering more frequently and for longer durations than needed. Atmospheric evapo-transpiration (“ET”) systems are good, as they estimate soil moisture from data collected from the atmosphere. But ET systems are expensive to purchase and operate.  Their accuracy is limited to the accuracy of the weather, and the knowledge of the soil and plant type.  There are often times monthly fees associated with the installation as well.

Acclima offers an unprecedented solution to ensuring efficient irrigation. When irrigating according to root zone moisture requirements, Acclima delivers only the water needed, applying up to 40% less water and thus ensuring a healthy landscape. Acclima’s patented Digital TDT Moisture Sensor technology reads absolute soil moisture to within ± 1%. The sensor is integrated through embedded software (firmware) to a computerized controller. The result is a self-regulating irrigation control system that maintains soil moisture at optimal levels for plant growth at significant savings and convenience. Customers have now tested the Acclima system for three irrigation seasons. Sensor accuracy and reliability have been independently verified by the Center for Irrigation Technology, University of California at Fresno (CIT). The Acclima system does not require the installer to have knowledge of soil type, plant or turf type, water flow at heads or microclimates.  The sensor automatically adjusts for common parameters that are needed to run an ET based system.
